My paintings are about energy.  I am seeking out subjects where positive energy is present.  I am paying tribute to the positive energy that surrounds us, not only in the human spirit, but in our world, if we can slow down enough to recognize it.

I am interested in art history where masters were able to portray the idealized human spirit the way they thought it should be portrayed.  Their commitment to that end gave people a respite from their world.  It allowed for a positive energy to be relayed.  I am focusing on capturing the essence of energy in every day subject matter of café's, quiet moments with figures, street scenes and more abstract pieces while focusing on not only the energy of the people but also the light that is present.  I have been exploring interiors and the play of light to create mood and possibilities.  I believe in the future of the human spirit where we can tap into the positive energy that surrounds us so that beauty is all that we see.  That is what I hope to offer to the critic of my work.

My technique is to use the expressionist technique of an emotional response to what I see.  I feel capturing a fleeting moment requires diligent observation and an unerring ability to focus on line that represents the energy that is given off.  I am interested in an economy of line, mastery of the eye to see it right the first time. I use rapid strokes with a palette knife allowing for color to blend spontaneously capturing a magical color harmony, a spontaneous accident that is divine in the color usage.  Building up layers of paint and yet not losing the spontaneous energy quality is important in my work.  I am trying to capture enough of the subject matter to develop these messages and yet not over develop to provide too many answers to the observer or lose the energetic quality that I feel is so important.

Critics call my work soothing, mood enhancing, quiet and yet dynamic.  I am constantly looking for those moments around me that I can capture.
